WHY ARE YOU RUNNING? – Xavier’s Pep Talks

There is an African Proverb that says, “Every morning, an antelope wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion, or it will be eliminated. Every morning, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest antelope, or it will starve. It doesn’t matter whether you’re the lion or an antelope, when the sun comes up, you’ve got to be running”

Fortunately for you, you ain’t a lion and you damn sure ain’t a gazelle. You are a child of God which makes you a god too. Although both of those majestic animals are wonderfully designed, they can only do what they instinctually know to do. Run after something, or run from something. Unfortunately, some of us are out here doing the same thing, acting like animals, always chasing something external. Chasing a goal, chasing a man/woman, chasing money, chasing clout, always chasing something. Others of us are runners, always running from something. Running from the past, running from fights, running from parents, running from fears, running from responsibilities, running from family members, even running from children (its a special pit in hell for all the absentee parents btw), and running from any and everything that makes us uncomfortable. Essentially running from oneself seems to be a common program these days.

Please trust and believe, that I ain’t judging you. I’ve done my fair share of running and chasing and I am grateful for the lessons that I’ve learned during the times where I did both, regardless of how stupid I looked or felt at the time. This proverb ain’t about running though, because as children of God, we don’t chase, we attract. We don’t run, we repel. This proverb is simply a reminder to be productive, but that productivity looks different for every single person. And truth be told, it’s hard to be productive when you live your life in survival mode. Let’s be honest, most of us are dealing with some fight or flight shit right now and the only way to get out of survival mode is to reprogram our minds to stop creating hell, when heaven is right here waiting for us all to enter into it. Let’s now take a look out how we can be so focused on surviving and “living” that we lose focus of the reality that tomorrow ain’t promised to any man.

Some people are so worried about “living” in a house, that they are dying in an abusive relationship. Some people are so worried about “living” with money in their pocket, that they are dying a little every day they spend at that shitty job. If your goal is to die miserable, then congratulations you and the majority of the people on this firmament are well on your way to succeeding. However, if your goal is to live happily, then you gotta let go of everything that’s not creating that reality for you. This is not a post encouraging you to make a bunch of dramatic and extreme life decisions that could hurt yourself or others. So before you go and divorce your family, cut off your parents, quit your job, and move out the country, how about you just fast from social media, change your eating habits, go spend more time in nature, read some healthy wholesome books, start journaling, and get off that got d*** black mirror you call a phone. Once you make these internal changes you will notice that all of a sudden the things that you were chasing may start coming to you, and the things that you were running from might stop chasing you. “Energy flows where attention goes,” so if you start focusing on creating a paradise inside of your mind, then you will begin to see how paradise is and always has been everywhere.
